5 REASON to drive your OWN car to Langkawi Island

Hi peeps, many tourists had dilemma during traveling; whether or not to drive your own car or rent one instead. I had this dilemma during my travel and journey in Langkawi Island. Therefore, the purpose of this post is to enlighten you on such matter and maybe give you a good reasoning to why it is better to drive your own car instead of renting one.

1. Expensive for long vacation days.
The two-way ticket fees and rate for car ferry are about RM 250.00 / 56.19 USD. Hence, if you spent 7 days of holidays in Langkawi Island, then you only spent RM 35.71 / Day and that is about 8.02 USD / Day. As compared to renting a car, the cheapest car would be about RM 90.00 / Day and that is 20.24 USD / Day. If you travel with friends, you could also further divide the pricing up to 5 people per car, hence, became even cheaper during long vacation days. The pricing of the car rental as shown below is the same as in the pics above.

Perodua Viva

a. Perodua Viva : RM   90.00 / Day (20.24 USD)
b. Perodua Myvi: RM 109.00 / Day (24.51 USD)
c. Perodua Axia : RM 120.00 / Day (26.98 USD)

From pics above, Perodua Viva is not really a big car and it is definitely not a comfortable one to travel with. When driving your own car on the Island, you could guarantee two things; the cheaper rate for long term vacation and comfortability as you are riding your own car instead.

Expensive Bill?

2. Expensive rental rate during holidays.
Before any renting approach, every potential customer should consider public and school holidays in their consideration. All the holidays will act as a catalyst for the rental company to boost their rental prices. Moreover, there will be an overbooking issue as well. Hence, create even a greater commotion. Therefore, to avoid those stresses it is even highly advisable to bring your own car instead. Not only you are able to reduce the arrangement stresses but as well able to put every decision in control. It will definitely be unfortunate if last minute decision had to be made.

3. No luggage limit
The most exciting thing about driving your own car is you can bring whatever things you want to bring on the island. Just put it in the boot and drive all the way to Kuala Perlis Port before boarding the car ferry. I went to Langkawi end of last year and bought along toaster and other cooking apparatus. It could be heavy if you carry it along with you but wouldn't be a bother if you just chuck it in the boot. Unlike renting a car, you still need to carry along your luggage until you reach the island, the rental company will then pick you up and hand over the car to you once you registered at the company office. Once you secure the car, you will finally able to chuck your luggage in the boot. Reduce the hassle if you have a car at the first place.

The rental car suddenly broke down?

4. Safe travel and Reliable
How reliable is the rental car? How safe is it and is it in a good condition for you and your family. Obviously, these sort of questions will never strike your mind if you use your own car instead. My sister rents a car on Langkawi Island before and to my surprise, the car does not have air condition as well as front light for night view. She ended up driving without any front light to assist her driving. Personally, it is dangerous and thinks could have turned to worst. The worst feeling is you paid for a good quality car but ended up with something that is not up to your expectation. However, all those misfortune could be avoided entirely by traveling on your own car instead.

Where to meet? Is the provider reliable?

5. No hassle of getting and returning the car to the provider.
All you need to do in order to secure a rental car is by contacting the provider once you reach the port in Langkawi Island, provided that you book the car first before hand to avoid multiple booking. Commonly, the provider will then pick you up at the port and drive you to their nearby office. There you will register your name to the respective rental car and once all procedure is done, you have secured the rental car. However, if the car is not at your expectation and no car is available due to public and school holidays, you will then let's say screwed.

Without a car, other means of transportation is the taxi and I'm not entirely sure if Uber is available. You can contact other providers, however, during school holidays you cannot be too sure to have other rental cars available. What's left of an option is just to accept whatever kind of condition the car is that the provider gift even though you paid a lot of money for it. Hence, the best way is to drive your own car instead. Save you the trouble and any decision making is more in control.

If you any question at all please do leave a comment. Until then have a nice travels peeps.
